taking their 31st consecutive defeat without a win?
Every time this has gone to the voters it has been defeated. What are your day after elections reactions?Religiously - How are gay marriage supporters?
It HURTS !
(Although we have had some wins).
People can not understand just how much it hurts.
How would YOU feel if someone voted away YOUR LEGAL right to marry the person you love?
A bunch of ignorant people believe that they have the right to deny to gay people EXACTLY the same civil rights under the law. that they assume for themselves.
I can only hope ';They do not know what they do.';
Just think what our country would be like if all states would have passed laws to discriminate against minorities.
Some states would probably still have segregation, and some states would still deny people of differing races the right to marry.
I pray for the day when religious based bigotry is a thing of the past, and millions of our gay youth are no longer so alienated.
One thing which is noteworthy is the slim margin of defeat.
Demographics show that older people have disproportunately voted against marriage equality so it is only a matter of time before justice prevails in this issue.
Eventually justice WILL will out. Other Christian (and religious) sanctioned injustices have finally been done away with. (IE the issue of slavery and women's rights, and several others).
Eventually some day people will wonder jsut what the big fuss was about gay marriage.Religiously - How are gay marriage supporters?
I still think that in the long run, gay rights will prevail. The religious right can not justify their bigotry in this case, and public opinion is shifting towards a position of more tolerance over the long haul. And by that, I mean over a period measured in decades, not just a span of a few years.
Religious excuses were once used to argue in favor of slavery, then against womens suffrage and civil rights for minorities. In each case, you got shot down in flames.
If you have ANY evidence that gay marriage harms YOUR relationship in any way, post it here.
Reactions? Sad that so many people in this country are bigots. Of course, if you put interracial marriage to a vote, even today, some parts of the country would turn it down. That's why it was never put to a popular vote. Same-sex marriage shouldn't be either. Eventually, we'll have a supreme court brave enough to do what the court did in Loving v. Virginia, and declare that marriage is a basic human right, and neither the states nor the population can stop it.
So enjoy your victory. It will be short-lived.
People may have not voted to end segregation, especially if it came a little before its time and the civil rights movement. The country had too many racists. Now the country has a lot of homophobes. I am a strong believer that justice eventually will prevail. Since we have the separation of church and state, it is an injustice to prevent marriage equality for all. We will see. I am hopeful.
I'm pretty disgusted and embarrassed by my country right now. Full of hate-filled, ignorant religious whack-jobs. We're the laughing stock of the world because of them.
I find it to be extremely ironic that a country that likes to brag that it's all about freedom actually puts human rights up to a vote, and then denies people their rights. This issue should never be up for vote in the first place. But then again, America is not about freedom anymore, is it?
You WILL lose this issue eventually. It's slow in coming, but despite your attempts to outlaw it through a vote, gay marriage WILL be legal all over the country in our lifetime. So don't go getting too smug.
I'm happy to see that most answers to the question have a hopeful tone, some day rights will be more generally recognized.
This morning on Yahoo news I read about a justice of the peace that had to resign because he refused to marry an interracial couple, and they are taking him to court.
Bigotry and prejudice may never go away completely, but it grows weaker over time.
God's purpose and program is that we overcome our fear of those who are different, and learn to live in peace, fairness, and compassion with all people.
Sorry but I get p.o.ed over the the few minority demanding their rights over others...call it ';special rights.';
Hate crime. Amazing the crap Christians have to put up nowadays, but this is considered ';free speech.'; We speak out, we are hate mongers.
Now the vote is out again and the majority of the people have spoken, yet, the homosexual community blames Obama.
Gotta blame someone, eh?
Every one had the same rights in marriage. As a man, I could only marry a woman. Same rights as everyone else. Mine was no special privileges. Now that the gay personal are slugging their power and voices but want to silence mine, this is NOT EQUAL.
This country was founded on principles based on morality and the majority vote. Homosexuals are NOT the majority. And I won't go down without a fight if my voice won't be heard while others demand their immorality be reckoned. NO WAY will I have my children hear the lies the gays promote to extend their agenda. NO WAY will you jam it down my throat without the Truth be heard.
Ya keep bragging you just better hope someday no one takes your right to get married away because then you will whine and cry to about man i am glad we passed the same marriage rights for homosexuals up here in Washington yesterday by 51% and you do know it is legal i 3-4 states already so in the end you won nothing.
not suprising - the US is a majority christian nation, any time such an issue is put to popular vote, it will be struck down due to religious intolerance by the majority - it is the biggest miscarriage of justice to allow a majority to dictate the rights of a minority
Don't scoff. They will eventually win. And, you will gnash your teeth in disgust. But, that's the way it goes. If you want a perfect world, wait for prophecy to be fulfilled. Otherwise, baiting questions is going to accomplish nothing.
Congrats. Are you going to make gays stand in the back of the bus now you fu##$ng bigot? Soon your support will die off with the rest of the old racist people too and human rights will be won for everyone.
Not true....the fist vote in Arizona on it the amendment stopping it lost.
The gap is narrowing. Eventually people will side with freedom and liberty over superstition and tyranny.
It must be pretty depressing, I just chalk it up to ';lol, those silly americans'; with their 'Guns' and their 'Intelligent Design' and their 'KKK'.
Silly.
The mixed race marriages were not established in one day either. Give it time...
An entire generation of bigots need to die out before things start to move.
I just wish I was back in the good 'ol days and didn't have to hear about all these controversial subjects plaguing our age.
I guess they'll just keep plucking on.
You know what they say, nothing is impossible with god.
Jesus did say to turn the other cheek and love your fellow man.
I guess he left out the ';except THOSE people'; clause.
Did you gloat like this when you denied women and blacks the right to vote as well?
Any particular reason you like to remain in the stone ages with your head lodged firmly in your...
I'm just glad I live in England where homophobic bigots do not wield the same power as they do in the US.
They probably feel the same way you did when prayer was banned in public schools.
Or when creationism is consistently shut down by court rulings.
Must hurt huh?
We are so proud of our hatred and bigotry, some states are making it law! Such a beautiful, enlightened society!
Interesting how the voters have consistently weighed in on this one.
I'm kind of 'eh' because I already knew it was going to happen. You just have to give it time sweetheart. People aren't used to the idea yet.
*golf claps*
Congratulations on making yourself look like an *ss.
Yea ... its pretty sad when we can vote away the rights of others ...
I'm beginning to wonder what our forefather fought for ... it certainly wasn't freedom ....
isn't gay marriage legal in some states???
It doesn't have much of a chance.
Here is good counsel from Christ:
The ';ideal'; of marriage is that a man and woman agree continuously to remain in respect and committed relationship as peers meeting all the emotional, psychological and spiritual challenges, and difficulties of adult expression and growth. In fact, however, men and women have operated within their unions as criminals attacking and oppressing one another, their communities, and their children as combatants, destroyers, enemies, and ';home wreckers';. Necessarily (in the language of the Bible, “for the hardness of their hearts”), the state has developed mechanisms to extend the protection and support of the law both to its citizens (i.e., the neighbors, the children, wives, husbands, and the in-laws), and to the institutions threatened by ';out-of-control'; marriages.
As in the larger society, modern, secular marriage is often characterized by criminal conduct. The foundations of these unions are always material and temporal (i.e., limited in duration), and require regulation through law enforcement agencies. Repeatedly, these life-partnerships are plagued by bigamy, breach of contract, cheating, domestic violence, enslavement, ignorance, immaturity, incompatibility, lust, lying, murder, pride, prostitution, selfishness, sexual aberrations, suicide, and ungodliness. To the extent that marriage is based upon feelings of desire, external circumstances and social conditions, or dreams and fantasies of dominance, self-fulfillment, status and “success”, there is no solid or stable platform that will allow the partners in relationship to grow and produce as individuals. Arranged marriages, marriages of convenience, polyandry (one woman having many husbands), polygamy (one man having multiple wives), and widowhood emerge as responses to disasters and other social conditions that reduce “qualified” candidates for marriage. Thus, for example, epidemic disease and war promote “teen” and early marriage where populations have been decimated.
By contrast, sacred marriage (holy matrimony) is grounded in “promise” and spiritual substance (e.g., belief, obedience, praise, trust); and “enforcement” is through self-discipline and spiritual submission to GOD. Here, marriage is not merely an institution created by GOD for reproduction of Adam (i.e., mankind -- GOD's name to both the male and female); marriage is a relationship where the male and female are ';one flesh';, and GOD is the other. For this reason, among mature Christian believers, both marriage and divorce are emblems of divine sovereignty (What God has joined together, let no man put asunder.). GOD -- who is both Creator and Judge -- uses death and divorce as ';tools'; to ';put asunder';, to fashion repentance (i.e., turning away from sin, while turning to GOD), and to complete the process of judgment. Divorce may remove the obligation to cohabit (share living space); however, the obligation to ';love your enemy'; is still in effect. Divorce does not remove all duty -- certainly not duty to GOD.
There is far more to be understood. I trust this ';fragment'; will be useful. Be it unto you according to your faith.
Washington, DC
the right is right , wrong is wrong ! that has nothing to do with religion.
people are disgusted with the idea (thought) that a person have sex with their same sex partner. ewwwwwwww !
but i won't be surprised if they win sooner or later. in this country pedophiles have rights and are considered humans. so...what's more left that we will put on human rights.
