How does the USA check if foreigners marriage to a US citizen is genuine?

This is out of total curiosity, I have no plans on doing this.





But to prevent people from just marrying a citizen to get into the country (I believe this is fraud), it says the USA will check to see if the marriage is genuine. How do they do this?How does the USA check if foreigners marriage to a US citizen is genuine?

They interview each spouse separately and ask a slew of questions concerning the other spouse. Questions that a real spouse would know, but that a spouse of convenience would not. Like where did your spouse go to school; what's his/her favorite perfume/after shave; how, where and when did you meet. They interview family members, friends and employers. They talk to the neighbors. They then collate all the material, sift through it and check for inaccuracies or for stories that are so identical that they seem rehearsed. They are also more suspicious of marriages where the foreign spouse is from a country where emigrating to the US is especially difficult; or when the spouse would not meet immigration qualifications. A government official with higher clearance than FBI and MIB bring them into a room together. Soon as the couple is seated the Super Top Secret Agent man/woman draws a gun and points it to the head of the American. The first 10 seconds of reaction (crying, screaming, fighting or running away,etc) by the foreigner are used to determine if the marriage is genuine.
A friend and his wife were just interviewed separately. They asked questions like - what side of the bed does your spouse sleep on, what time is the alarm set every morning, what are the names of your spouse's siblings, how does your spouse take his/her coffee, who is your spouse's fave sports team, what sort of beer do you have in the fridge, what color is your spouse's toothbrush and other questions you would only know if you lived with the person. They also had to submit copies of letters/cards sent to each other, copies of plane tickets/etickets from visiting each other's countries, pictures of them together during holidays, etc.
The US immigration system is a joke, they ask 3 questions and that's it. It's easy to learn for the test..


Sometimes if they suspect the couple, there will be a fraud interview and the couple will have to study for it until their next fraud interview.





If someone can't pull it off then he's a real idiot.
First of all you need to go in to an interview where they question you very good. They can even split you up and ask you the same questions and compare the answers. You will also need to bring in proof. Photos, bills, letters from family and friends.
The agents must watch the couple shower and have sex together. JK. They investigate how long the couple has know each other, how they met, and a basic background check. In other words, they investigate.
