How would a gay marriage in California work?

My gf's sister and her partner just got engaged recently, and they're planning a wedding next year. We live in CA, and as you know, Prop 8 has passed and gay marriage is not legal. Yet, they're still planning on getting married HERE on the sandy beaches of San Diego, so how would this work? Is it going to be legit with paperwork and such, I don't understand how this will play out...

I'm real excited for them, I wish it were easier. How would a gay marriage in California work?
Sadly, they can't currently get a marriage license here in CA. But they can register as domestic partners. Not the same, but it does give the couple a little bit of benefit. That's the legal side.

As far as the ceremony, they can have whatever ceremony they want. There are still plenty of officiants (religious and secular) who will perform a lovely wedding ceremony for them. It's only the underlying legal stuff that would be different.

I hope things change before the wedding so they can just get a plain old marriage license! How would a gay marriage in California work?
Well. It would be exactly the same as a domestic partnership except it will be called a marriage.

The Defense of Marriage Act (federal law) denies all federals rights to ALL gay unions, be it civil unions, domestic partnerships, or gay marriages.
sure they can say they are married but it won't be legal as of right now. Who knows in a few days. I sure hope that they stick to morals and say no to gay marriages. If this passes then what next, marriages to animals? (almost the same)
Gay marriage doesnt work in California.
They're trying to make a scene, obviously.

They can't be legally married so wtf?
im gay and i have gay sex every nigh ;)
