How do you keep your marriage happy and going strong when you work opposite work shifts?

My schedule is being changed and if I want to keep my job I have to just deal with it. When I leave for work by husband will already be at work and when I get home, my husband will be going to bed. All we will have now are the weekends.

To me, it will be like we are dating again because we'll only see each other on weekends. I'm afraid that it will damage our marriage, I hope not though.

Is there anything that I can do to make this shift change less traumatic. How do you keep your marriage happy and going strong when you work opposite work shifts?
We are going through the same thing right now. It will only ruin things if you let it. Make the most of the weekends. Leave him notes or something nice to find when you are not around or sleeping. It will make him think of you and he may do the same. The economy won't suck forever so things will get back to normal eventually and this could make things better. Be positive. How do you keep your marriage happy and going strong when you work opposite work shifts?
Dont worry, if you are strong it will continue to be still strong, I was overseas for about 6 months and different time zones so it was difficult too but we would try and work out the best time to call each other, even if for 5 minutes to say hello, i did this today, I am going to bed or work, etc. Just leave written notes for each others and txt, call whenever. Keep in touch. It is good you will have thew weekends so you can really enjoy the time you have together better. Hope it works for you!
Marriage is all about things like this .... it will change for the better in the end you wont be working the same shift for the rest of your life.

You love each other so it will work.

But just try looking forward to the weekends atm.

Plan something to do each weekend to look forward to!

Then you can spend all week being excited about it :D

Meet each other for lunch or dinner. Text throughout the day. Call when you can. Arrange for a little ';fun'; during your lunch or dinner dates. Send card or notes. Type up letters letting him know how much u love him and praise him for all the wonderful things he does.

When you get home and he is going to bed meet him with a passionate kiss and make love. Let him know that he is amazing in every way. Keep the home fires burning.

It's tough but it can be done.
You can send each other some cards or leave each other a small note telling each other how much you love each other. If you think it's like courtship again, do things you do during courtship. This will bring back those fond memories you guys had before. It's one of the way to bring back the sparks in the relationship
there will be an 8 hour overlap... Make the MOST of it.

IF you're so inclined... leverage it...

Leave cards/love notes in his lunch

Make BIG PLANS for the weekend... Tag him with IMs emails.

If the love is there... the rest is simple.
Look forward to the weekends and make special plans. And consider looking for another job.
Visit him during his lunch. Call on your breaks. Leave him love notes.
arrange your day offs, and talk often. In person and on the phone.
TEXT :)
same problem here....

we try to make most out of the weekends..but at times i am working even on week ends...so it gets bit difficults..

you have to keep trying hon
My husband used to work night shift 7 days a week. We saw each other on Saturday evenings and then he was always too tired to participate in anything.

I can tell you - it put lots of stress on our marriage. Things went well for the first few weeks but after that it just went down hill. It truly gets very lonely. Luckily he went back on day shift and I can't tell you what the difference in our marriage is now. We actually have weekends to spend with him.

In your case I think you will cope better as you have weekends with him. You don't see him during the day anyway and you go to sleep during the night so you only miss out on weekdays from say 5 - 10pm.
