Is it okay for the federal government to have a law banning marriages in all states nationwide?

Are conservatives against gay marriage that are always crying about state's rights hypocritical like that? How many of you wanted for Bush to sign into law a nationwide gay marriage ban in all the states? Is it okay for the federal government to have a law banning marriages in all states nationwide?
please try not to generalize so much... republican - not against gay marriage. and yes that would be overstepping state's rights. and i never knew W had a chance to sign a bill like that. im assuming you are posing a hypothetical?

btw, you should look at both sides on this one. Cali voted it down... and yes i know there are republicans in Cali. but most everyone is willing to admit that Cali is a lib state. (except when it comes to budget problems. lol. then the libs scream ';Arnie is republican';)Is it okay for the federal government to have a law banning marriages in all states nationwide?
I'd love to see that.
The issue ( at least for the legal conservative rather than the idiot religious conservatives) is the full faith and credit clause. A good conservative could be against gay marriage ( why? who knows but it is possible) and not want his state to have to give full faith and credit to the gay marriages of other states. While misguided it is a change consistent with conservatism. To ask the feds to ban gay marriage is simply religious conservative using liberal tactics to forward their backward agenda.
they only cry about things when it affects them.
I don't really want the feds doing jack. The States should decide on abortion, gay-marriage, etc. That was the vision of the founders, and that is the way it should be. If I don't like the policies of a particular State, I can take myself, and my tax money - and move somewhere more to my liking.
I'd say none, as conservatives understand the 10th ammendment denies the federal government jurisdiction over marriage.
Nope I just voted to ban it in my state don't care about the rest of the nations views on it they don't live where I do.
