I have a house in my own name and my fiancee wants her name to be added to the deed right after we get married. Is it customary to add a spouse to the house deed after marriage, and if so how long after the wedding? Is it customary to add new spouse to house deed after marriage?
Much like prenuptial agreements, marital assets can be a tricky conversation. I would consider making a compromise- in the event that you are happily married after 5 years, you will agree to reopen a discussion for adding her to the deed. If she owned a house with significant equity, would she be so willing to put it at risk on a new marriage? Is it customary to add new spouse to house deed after marriage?
See a lawyer about how marriage affects issues with home ownership. I recommend this to all couples who have property. Find out how marriage affects your ownership. In some cases, putting a property into trust may be a wise choice.
In my state, whether her name is on the deed or not, she automatically has a 50% ownership in the primary marital home. That is the law. However, if only your name is on the deed and you die leaving a substantial mortgage and she can't afford to pay the mortgage and can't sell the home, she can let the bank have the house and it will not affect her credit rating. However, for most people, banks require a life insurance policy to pay off the mortgage now, so I don't really see a benefit to this thinking.
My guy's home is paid for. He will be adding me to the deed in January (we plan to marry this year). The county courthouse says it's only a $5 fee to change my name to married name after we are married.
If you mean to ask if it's a legal requirement, it depends on what state you live in. In some states, you don't have to add the spouse for the spouse to have a property interest if you are married. In other states, you do.
If you're asking whether she'll be pissed if you don't add her, I think it's safe to assume that it would be customary for your new wife to get mad and distrustful... especially for someone who asks prior to marriage.
No, it is not. If your fiancee insist, then you and her go to the mortgage company, resign the papers as a married couple then put her name on the deed. You do not get something for nothing any where I have been.
BTW, if you are serious, you had better get a pre-nup and have her sign that. Something smells here and it is not the fish.
You should do what you feel is right. My DH have been married a year and a half and I am not on the deed to our home and I dont care that Im not....we have plenty of trust and therefore it doesnt matter to me whos name is on what.
no, it is not customary. It is not a marital asset if you marry either.
No, It's your house not hers. Everything you buy after theis is half hers.
BEWARE She is already gold digging!!!
THAT'S UP TO YOU. I WOULDN'T BECAUSE I'VE SEEN TOO MANY PEOPLE WORK HARD FOR SOMETHING, GET MARRIED AND THAT PERSON WALK OFF FROM IT. BUT IT'S TOTALLY UP TO YOU.
It will complicate things if you get a divorce !!
Don't worry about it for now !!!

What does dreaming of marriage mean if everything is perfect?
I dreamed that I was getting married to my fiancee'. Everything in the service was beautiful and how it should be. Our daughter was older and everything. Nothing was wrong with the service. The only strange thing was my father whom I am very close with who is deceased was there. There were no tensions between us or anything.
I have heard that dreaming of marriage means a death? But what type of death? One inside my immediate, one that I knew about, or one that will come soon? What does dreaming of marriage mean if everything is perfect?
Often dreams of marriage have to do with uniting your inner feminine and masculine sides. It is not about death. In order to be balanced, we need to honor both the masculine and feminine.
SBWhat does dreaming of marriage mean if everything is perfect?
There Have Been stories told that the dearly departed can contact us in our sleep, realistically everybody has had a dream where one of our relatives or friends have contacted us. the problem is though at least 95% of us cannot remember these dreams whether they are too powerful for our minds or our memory is not perfected.
Personally I Don't believe that Marriage Means Death, that's a stupid superstition, Marriage For me means a new beginning. but then again people may believe that the deceased show up in your marriage dream to maybe contact you that your new life will begin (afterlife). but there has been no proper evidence of this
Since you have a fiancee' I assume that means you plan to marry him. It is natural to dream that your father attends the wedding. This just means you wish your father was here to share in your joy, and see your daughter grow up, etc.
God bless you!

How would you feel about someone who broke up your marriage?
Here we have the Mormon church complaining because gays are actually bitter that the Mormon Church paid $25 million (tax exempt) to bust up their marriages with poop position hate. They want gays to be ';civil'; about having their marriages destroyed. Just out of curiosity, if a bunch of people in a church you never gave a damn about busted up your marriage with tax exempt money, how happy would you be? Extremely happy? Or perhaps a bit angry? Lets say you are not even gay for the sake of argument, just tell us how you would feel. How would you feel about someone who broke up your marriage?
I had a church break up my marriage... in a way. Having them tell my wife on a daily basis how I was evil incarnate for being an Atheist... how I was obviously a Satanist, how I'd kill babies if I could, how I wanted to kill Jesus again, how I was ';infecting'; her with evil spirits, casting evil spells on her, how I was really Satan in disguise trying to get her to sin... that broke up my marriage.
All lies... and no different to the lies the Mormon Church spread in it's ILLEGAL campaign to get Gay Marriage outlawed. Illegal, because as a Tax-Exempt Religion, they are not allowed to do ANY political campaigning or endorsing at all...
Bitter? I'd be bitter if an organisation blatently broke the law to f*ck up my marriage...How would you feel about someone who broke up your marriage?
1. These marriages were arguably never legal. The supreme court took action where it was unauthorized to do so.
#2. Where is the Mormon Church complaining about anything other than the violence, vandalism, and acts of terrorism against it???
#3. The church paid less than $3,000. California voters who were also LDS independantly contributed around $20,000,000
#4. Prop 8 had nothing to do with hate.
#5. There's no ';busting up'; of marriages. It's been stated that homosexual marriages that had already taken place will not be revoked. The LDS church is not fighting this point.
Every single claim you made is false. You're not looking very reliable here.
COMMON LAW MARRIAGE, living in sin has been around for years and they think that they must marry or forever be unhappy. I have livied in sin before, whats wrong with that, Gays marry on occasion or haven't you heard Rosie o donald is married and so is other celebrities there are ways ot get married by a gay minister. Nothing stopped that halfman/ half women from getting pregnant.
Marriages are broken up every day. The divorce courts never stand empty. Adultery is still one of the leading reasons people get divorced. I have never seen any happy faces leaving the Court room after a divorce. Divorces are expensive but it is now the norm...
Adultery is a religious concept right??????
Far too many people end up with broken relationships because of values, morals, and ethics. It is the principal of the thing.
Well gay marriage to me sounds like a bit of an oxymoron, so I don't think I feel too bitter about it. Thanks for asking though.
I hear alot of gay people complaining, however, I think most of the people who voted against said marriages are grateful.
Poop position hate. That's awesome! I love it. I'm gonna use that.
I agree 100%. I think the whole thing moved us back a step. It was a step backwards in our evolving humanity.
To the homophobic cavemen (and women): Boooooo!!
The advantage of delaying marriage and child-bearing, ideally, is to get established financially. Another advantage is to allow time for personal growth without the responsibility of a relationship.

Yeah, or how would child molesters feel if some corrupt judges legalized pedophilia, then the voters broke up THEIR relationships?
';How would you feel about someone who broke up your marriage?';
It looks like a marriage that never should have been if it could be broken up by someone else.
It would bother me if they broke up my marriage but it wouldn't bother me at all if they broke up a gay marriage
Where can I hire some of them?

What are your views on waiting till marriage to have sex?
I think waiting for marriage to have sex is a valid and reasonable choice, but abstinence shouldn't be shoved down people's throats.
How is it ';moral'; to wait until marriage to have sex and ';immoral'; to have sex with someone you care for or even love when not married? Why can't both be considered pure of intent? I think it's better to have strong morals about sex meaning something more than just carnal pleasure. And don't confuse ';promiscuity'; with ';monogamy';. Sort of like having one piece of cake and eating the whole thing by yourself.
Thoughts? What are your views on waiting till marriage to have sex?
I think its a really stupid idea.
Sex is powerful physically, emotionally and even spirituality. It will teach you a lot about yourself, your partner, your compatibility together, and it has a huge impact on your relationship. When your about to commit yourself to someone for life, it is a Terrible idea to not know if you are 100% compatible. Sex / love making are both essential for a long term healthy relationship. Its not shallow - its reality. Each person has different sexual needs, and it happens to A LOT of couples where they are not sexually compatible and it causes strain and tension on the relationship.
Now, dont get me wrong. I do not support sleeping around. Like I said, sex is a powerful thing. You shouldn't be sleeping with every boyfriend you have or passing yourself out like a platter. Sex should be saved for someone you trust, have deep feelings for, and are in a long term relationship with.
Sex is also a RISKY thing. So you Have to be Sexually Educated. Always use 2 form of birth control, and make sure you and your partner dont have any STDs. Not all STDs have visible symptoms.
I had sex before marriage. So did my husband. Our honeymoon night was still an amazing experience. Neither of us have Any regrets.
But it is a personal choice. No one should do anything they dont feel comfortable with. What are your views on waiting till marriage to have sex?
Both are a choice; a personal choice and an individual choice - there is no right thing to do and no wrong thing to do.
I have nothing against people waiting until marriage, I think that shows tremendous discipline and props to them, but I also have nothing against pre-marital sex, I'm not going to judge someone on something that has nothing to do with me - I'm not a virgin and I'm not married, and I don't regret it and no one else has the right to judge me about that - just like I haven't the right to judge them.
Till marriage, although nice, most people don't do it since some only get married by the time they're 30.
I think it's ok after you've reached 16-18 year mark and know how to keep yourself safe but in allseriousness with the surveys that say kids have had sex at 14 and even younger is not moral. I mean you're a kid, and no matter how mature you act or how 'slutty' you dress you'll still be a kid, and having sex just opens up a pandora's box that shouldn't be opened.
I think its up to the individual.
I HATE hearing people call it ';stupid';. Or when people say they ';don't believe in it.'; It's obviously not stupid to everyone, some people just have different values and morals. But it's also wrong to call people stupid for doing it before marriage, because not everyone wants to wait or get married either. And how can you not believe in it? It exists! It's there. Always will be, so you have to believe in it. It just might not be the right path for you.
I think whatever you want to do is just fine, as long as you don't belittle me for my choices.
well i respect people who want to wait and don't judge them but i personally couldn't ha ha. i have been in a good relationship with the same man for over 8 years we have 2 children and another on the way. we are happy the way we are without marriage ruining our happy relationship. our children are christened but we are not regular church attenders so not going to drill it into the kids. they can decide for them selves when they r older.
I mean is it the who religious thing that u wanna wait till marriage or just the whole make the love stronger reason?.
I agree with you. I view it as a valid option, but quite frankly IMPOSSIBLE to shove down ANYONE'S throat. Back when it was morally instated people were getting married at 14, not exactly a long wait. It's not realistic to expect teenagers to wait unless they themselves decide that's what they want to do. I started having sex with my still current boyfriend over 3 years ago when I was still 16. Looking back on it we wished we would have waited, but not because we were young.
I think it is a choice, just like not waiting. If a person wants to wait, then that is their choice. I did not make that choice and I am happy. Whatever makes you happy. Then again, if you choose to have sex, you need to be old enough to fully handle the consequences.
well, it's 100% their choice %26amp; doesn't affect me in any way, so i have nothing against.
personally, i didn't wait, but again, 100% my choice, and doesn't affect anyone in any way.
i think that it is a good thing to do but i dont believe that we should hate the people who dont choose to do it. and for shoving abstinece down throats i dont believe in that either. i feel the schools should teach safe sex not just abstinance.
I really don't care.
I mean if you can wait until marriage well more power to you.
Some people do and some people don't.
I respect people who wait, but only if they respect those of us that don't.
I think people who choose it are very patient!
I dont have anything against them, but celibacy isnt really for me..
=P
I think it's great that some people choose to wait...i didn't, but I don't regret it either.
When it comes to other people, it's their choice. It's not my place to pass judgement, and I'd never tell someone their decision was 'right' or 'wrong' (I've had the 'you're so immoral' speech from a few friends). The right choice for me was not waiting. I became sexually active at 16, and wouldn't change a thing!
1) I wouldn't ever be left thinking I'd 'missed out', and contemplating an affair during my midlife crisis.
2) Would I buy a pair of shoes without trying them on?
3) To me sex is a big part of a romantic relationship. What if I found out me and my partner weren't compatible AFTER the ring was on my finger? Horror..
4) I can't imagine sleeping with only one person my entire life
5) I want to enjoy my youth while I'm young..
6) For me, marriage would be because I'm actually ready to settle down and spend my LIFE with that one person. Not just because I want to have sex.
7) It wouldn't leave me disappointed and thinking ';...That's it?'; on my wedding night, after waiting so many years for it.
8) Contraception has never been better, and I make the most of it!
9) I probably won't get married until I'm 25+, so that's a long time to wait for something as natural as sex.
10) I don't believe having sex before marriage is immoral in the slightest. For all of the reasons above, and the big one; it's not hurting anyone else. That to me is the definition of ';wrong';, if it hurts another person. I'm not religious, but consider myself to have good morals. They might not be everyone's idea of ';good'; ones (the sex, drinking, experimenting with soft drugs), but they work for me.
I knew the person I lost my virginity wasn't ';The One';, but I really enjoyed it. I'd never take it back.
I think it's unnecessary, but I do support those who do it. If anything, maybe it will help stop the spread of STI's a little bit. And I respect their self control.
But I didn't wait, and I don't think there's anything wrong with not waiting. I love my boyfriend very much, and think we'll get married someday. But if not, I don't mind losing my virginity to him, because I'll always look back and know that, at least for a few years, he was worth it.
I also hate that they push abstinence on kids so much. Teaching sex ed that way will NEVER be a good thing, because teens will never stop having sex.
How is it ';moral'; to wait until marriage to have sex and ';immoral'; to have sex with someone you care for or even love when not married? Why can't both be considered pure of intent? If same-sex marriage will lead to polygamy, why are polygamous unions recognized in 8 times more countries?
Same-sex marriage is recognized in six countries, and Sweden and Nepal are set to join the batch by 2010.
48 Countries allow polygamy.
So if polygamy is legal in 8 times as many countries as gay marriage, how would gay marriage lead to polygamy? If same-sex marriage will lead to polygamy, why are polygamous unions recognized in 8 times more countries?
*chuckle* They can't hear you, and they never will.
But thanks for trying. If same-sex marriage will lead to polygamy, why are polygamous unions recognized in 8 times more countries?
The countries which allow polygamy are Muslim countries which follow Sharia Law.
Where woman are little more than property.
Where getting a new wife is like buying a new car.
Where selling a used car is more complex than divorcing a wife you no longer like.
Is that what you want?
Where man always get custody of the children?
Where a 16 year old girl is executed for seducing a 53 year old taxi driver? That relationship began when, as they claim the girl who was 13 then, seduced the 50 year old taxi driver.
Where whenever a woman is raped, its the woman's fault?
being married to more then one spouse at the same time is not allowed in most countries.
the countries are also mostly muslim
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polygamy#By鈥?/a>
People of the west do not recognize polygamous marriages. They do not even tolerate such unions.
Most of those nations also allow marriage to children of under 15 years old.
Should we also allow that?
Polygamy was a way of life for 10,000 years of recorded history and 200,000 years of ancient history. The church decided to make it a sin only to control people about 1000 years ago. and if you want to gather people and make a ton of money find something common for them to hate. Most of the people who hate polygamy are just jealous.
Polygamy in the US tends to lead toward pedophilia. I think as long as it stays among consenting adults people should be allowed to form whatever family group they want. I personally have no problem with polygamy, polyandry or gay marriage.
Polygamy in this country wouldn't work unless the man was pretty rich. In these economic times how would that play out.
I really don't know why people think same sex marriage would lead to polygamy. Good question. Both are non Christian BTW.
Nice, thanks.
Except it leaves people still wanting to compare these unrelated apples and oranges.
We govern ourselves. We don't allow either. If we allow one, then their is no reason not to allow the other.
Yeah well, that's because gay marriage will allow for...
Uh...
Curse you and your facts!

How plausible of a solution is this to the gay marriage debate?
More than likely, it's nothing original.
What if the word ';marriage'; was removed in entirety; no ';marriage'; at all, gay or straight. Instead, all homosexual and heterosexual life-term relationships would have the same rights, just under a different word or phrase (such as ';Civil Union'; or whatever) and the term marriage could be left to the interpretation of the individual/the individuals faith. How plausible of a solution is this to the gay marriage debate?
You're on the right track. Marriage is a civil contract anymore, which may or may not incluede a religious component. So long as both partnership contracts confer the very same rights and responsibilities, I'm coolwiddat.
The only problem would be the squawking when gays and lesbians start referring to their partnerships as marriages. If we leave the term marriage to the interpretation of the individual/individual's faith, then it is inevitable that there will be some outcry. Would that it were not so, alas, it is so.How plausible of a solution is this to the gay marriage debate?
The end game is gays don't want ';marriage';. They want to force their life on others. Let's start with kindergarten, instead of books about princess and prince there will be two prince's. Your church, well they would not only have to allow marriages on property, but also marry them in the churchs faith, and the congrgation would be sued to watch. Photographers and singers who refuse would be sued in court.
Parents who object would be arrested, and banned from voting, or attending their childrens school. CHildren of such parents would be beaten by gangs and allowed by the school. The nurse would refuse to notify the parents, and instead wait while the child suffers in the nursing office until teh parents find out 5 hours later and take the child to the ER themselves where the child is admitted. The first thing the principal will say, is ';YOU CAN't SUE US FOR THIS';.
That's what it's already like in many states.
I agree, but probably not plausible. The term ';marriage'; is deeply ingrained in law.
But if it could be done it's definitely the best solution. I see it this way:
';Marriage'; is religious, so leave marriage up to the religious institution that is holding the ceremony. Government should license ';Civil Unions,'; a secular idea that is simply the joining of two people.
Then, a Church (or any other religious institution) that feels it is wrong for a gay couple to get married can refuse to marry them, but that couple still enjoys the rights of a heterosexual couple under the law and is free to find a different Church that will marry them.
At least you are trying.
Taking away marriage from all is not a good solution.
I went from against the idea of Gay marriage to supporting the idea.
It boils down to civil rights, that's all.
Let churches decide if the want to do the ceremonies or not. That's up to them.
Let people like it or not or not care either way, that's up to them.
People say it will lead to other things.
Maybe it will. We will decide on a case by case basis when it happens.
Nobody has to earn their rights by assuring the rest of us that something else we don't like won't happen.
I don't get why people wanting to have the same rights as everyone else is always interpreted as wanting ';special rights'; or ';shoving their lifestyles into everyones faces.'; Love is love is love... Two people that love one another are no different than any other two people that love eachother... their sex organs shouldn't determine what they legally can or cannot do -- that's unconstitutional.
Because regardless, people want a marriage. It's the historical meaning of the word. Civil Union has no gravitas in world history. There will still be people who are married and people who aren't. That's not going to be good enough.
this is nothing new, it already exists.
the problem is many (most) want to shove their lifestyle into the faces of everyone.
Not a bad idea, I've heard it before.
The problem is trying to convince people that ALL couples deserve the same benefits.
Good luck with that.

What happens when your marriage VISA expiresand you do not have your green card ?
If your marriage VISA runs out before you get your Green Card with conditions how can you travel back to your country of origin or move to another state to attend school or another job. Is that another form and another 500 dollars. What happens when your marriage VISA expiresand you do not have your green card ?
What country is this? If USA, there is no such a thing marriage VISA will be expired! Marriage visa won't expire when your I-485 (adjustment status still pending). You can work with (apply I-765) EAD card and you can renew it every year and also you can travel to your origin country with advance parole documents (I-131 - travel document) and you can move to another state wherever and whenever you want to. However, NOTE that when your I-485 still pending and you move to another state, your case to get a green card will be delayed as well as to your documents will be transferred to your new state and this process takes time!!What happens when your marriage VISA expiresand you do not have your green card ?
come on your married that give the same statue as everyone else you really didnt know this please
I am not sure what your status is. If you have come to the USA under a K-1 visa and have not married within the 90 days, it is time to leave and re-apply with all the attendant fees. You will also have to explain why you did not get married within the allotted time. Good luck with that one.
If you have married and are merely waiting for your GC interview after applying to adjust status, I do not see what your problem is. You are legally present in the country. It is true that you cannot travel out of the country until you get the conditional Green Card, but then you cannot do so once you arrive on a K-1 and before you adjust status. If you anticipated a need to leave the country, you could have applied for advance parole.
You should probably contact an immigration attorney to get the best possible advice.
You are supposed to go back before your visa expires.
What visa?
Your other posts indicate that you are stuck in a namecheck, and your case can not be approved until it completes. Your elected reps, the USCIS phone staff, the officers at the Field Offices etc.. can do --nothing-- for you. You simply have to wait. While your case is pending, you DO have status here, so you do not have to leave.
If you DO want to leave, you should make sure that you have the appropriate travel documents to not abandon your case, and you should make sure that you do not have any issues that would keep you from re-entering the US.
Some namechecks take years. It's a sad fact of life, but there is nothing anyone can do about it.
If you want to move to another state, you can do that. Take the appropriate steps to change your mailing and case address with the USCIS to continue your case. There is no charge for a change of address.
Dude, you are talking a K-3 visa right?
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TRAVEL OUTSIDE THE US if this has expired. If it has they will check this and they will not let you back into the US. This just happened to someone in San Jose that I know. She's still in Vietnam and it will take about a year as they had to start all over again.
Call USCIS but they are wrong about 50% I know I check their stuff frequently. You may need to consult with an immigration attorney and there may be a $1000 fine. They can I am sure send you back if they want to.
Look unless you are an illegal you ahve no rights. Those of us who try to do it the right way are scorned by both Democraps and Republicracks. The US governement has become only a traitors den that worships La Raza on its knees. La Raza means ';The Race'; in Spanish and is the Hispanic equivelant to the KKK or the Nazi party. Their slogan is; ';All to those in the Race, nothing to those outside the race.';
La Raza is the most brazen racist organization in the US today. Just like the KKK or the Nazis La Raza feels its actions are justified and that those who are not part of its racial makeup are sub human. Why Americans are allowing this is beyond me...
The Democrats and Republicans hate the American people and they hate legal immigration they make legal immigration almost impossible and the USCIS office in San Jose California is staffed almost exclusively with Mexican illegals that were given Shamnesty under Reagan. They let you know that if they get a chacne that they wil make your life hell. Meanwhile outside todays batch of freeloading illegals are cavorting literally right around parked ICE cars and staff.
Good luck to you.
