How long does it take to receive our Certificate of Marriage in Manhattan?

We were married in October 2008 and haven't received our certificate of marriage as of yet. Does usually take this long in Manhattan? Also, who can I contact to find the status? I've tried the website, 311, and called the number on the website which when I called never picks up.How long does it take to receive our Certificate of Marriage in Manhattan?
Does Manhattan mail it to you? In NC, I had to go pick it up. If I were you I'd drive down there. I know in Virginia, SC, NC, and Tennessee it is a max of 20 days before you can pick up your marriage license.

If you haven't gotten it by now, I'd say they mailed it to the wrong address, it got lost in the mail or they don't mail it at all.

How can I obtain an extra copy of a marriage license after 50 years?

My grandfather recently pasted away and my grandmother is trying to figure out all the bills, etc. Some places require to see a copy of their marriage license in order to transfer his accounts to her. The problem is my grandfather had hidden the marriage license and our family can't find it. How do I go about getting a duplicate copy of their marriage license after 54+ years?

(They were married in Michigan and were currently living in North Carolina if that helps anything). Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much! How can I obtain an extra copy of a marriage license after 50 years?

What are gay marriage advocates opinion on polygamy within a group of consenting adults?

How can anyone who supports gay marriage deny the ';happiness'; of responsible adults, even if they are relatives, who wish to live with and support multiple spouses if they are happy in such an arrangement? What are gay marriage advocates opinion on polygamy within a group of consenting adults?
Well it is in the bible after all so I guess that makes it peachy keen. What are gay marriage advocates opinion on polygamy within a group of consenting adults?
No matter how much six or eight or ten people consent, marriage is a LEGAL contract between TWO people. It's ALWAYS been a legal contract. Recognition of gay marriage simply means that same sex couples would receive the same benefits that heterosexual couples enjoy: pensions, disability benefits, adoption rights, rights of survivorship, etc. This actually could only benefit society as in case of family crisis the burden of care would not shift to the state or the gov't.

If people want to live in a polygamist commune, more power to them, but don't look for it to be happening legally any time soon.
I just don't think anyone would go for that

We arent apes anymore, theres no reason for polygamy - and don't say its based on love and compare it to gays, cause thats just silly

Its not a fair comparison, nobody denies the sexual ';happiness'; of consenting adults, hence why gangbangs and **** are still legal, but I can;t see a group of people who claim to love eachother wanting to marry and have kids based soley on the percieved same principal and rights that gay people want, that makes no sense and is somewhat back stepping in human progress to assume that 4 or 5 people are sharing a bond that has nothing to do with sex and just want love and equal rights for thier ';preferance'; (which it isnt a preferance by all standards)....you'd have to be extremely retarded and naive to actually believe that thats why they want to get married

All I see is some gang bangers who want the social advantages of marriage, anti-descrimination laws and rights to raise a family without having to revoke and abondon their (questionable) sexual uhh...';practices';

Basically, they wanna drive a truck but are unwilling to grow up and realise that 5 people driving 1 car is a bad idea, and that 2 people in the front seats are more likely to reach the destination.
Kitkat is the only one who came up with a half decent answer. Although it doesn't really get to the heart of the question. I've wondered this same question before. And I still have yet to see anyone come up with a real coherent answer to this question.

I really believe that this is one of the biggest challenges gays will face in making their marriages legal. Because if they make their marriages legal, then someone else will want polygamous and incestuous marriages legalized also based on the same grounds that gays use. discrimination, happiness, fairness, etc.
Polygamy is not something that I agree with at all but I do not force my personal beliefs on others. So if all parties were consenting adults, I would not have a problem with it.

Why do I have the right to tell you who you can marry? I don't.
i really dont care- it think it's kind of weird but hardly my business. i think that some of the difficulty may have to do with survivor benefits-who gets the social security check after husband dies? i wouldnt want polygamists to get more benefits than others
What does polygamy have in common with same-sex marriage that it doesn't with opposite-sex marriage? Shouldn't you be asking this to people who support marriage in general?
Actually, I don't have a problem with polygamy, as long as all the parties involved are consenting adults. That being said, though, I certainly wouldn't want to share my man with anyone else!
I tell them to go for it. Millions of men and women cheat on their ';spouse'; anyhow, its all about the same.

How long after marriage can you apply for citizenship through naturalization?

The USCIS website says after 3 years, but it doesn't mention if that is 3 years with a greencard ';with conditions removed'; OR just plain 3 years of marriage (which would be a few months after applying to have your conditions on your greencard removed).

If anyone has gone through this, we would greatly appreciate the help! How long after marriage can you apply for citizenship through naturalization?
3 years from the date you entered the US as a lawful permanent resident. My wife did this 2 years ago. When we went to CIS to complete the 751 conditions removal, they suggested we file the naturalization application. It only took my wife 6 months from the day we filed the N-400 for her to naturalize. How long after marriage can you apply for citizenship through naturalization?
When you get your green card, the conditional one, there will be a date on it. Add 3 years. You are allowed to apply 90 days early.

How is a marriage license only valid for a year?

I live in Sarpy county in Nebraska and my fiance and I are getting our marriage license Tuesday. It says on their website the license is valid for a year. Why is that and does that mean we have to renew it every year?

Also, they said we don't have to have witnessess come but I thought you need a witness to sign the papers with you?How is a marriage license only valid for a year?
By valid for a year, they mean that you have a year after getting the license to get married and record the marriage license.

Each state has different procedures, Nebraska might just require that the minister/rabbi/judge and the couple sign it.How is a marriage license only valid for a year?
A marriage license is the state's written approval to grant you permission to get married to your fiance. The marriage license itself does not mean you are married. If the website says that the license is valid for one year after issue that means that you have to ';get married'; within one year of the date of issue or else the marriage license is void. That means you would have to be granted another license in order to be legally married. You do not need a witness to get a marriage license; as I said, it's merely the state's approval of your marriage. You DO need witnesses at your wedding where the finalization of your marriage will be performed. You have to have an agent of the state or someone granted agency over you in the wedding who can perform the wedding in front of witnesses and will make it known to the state that your marriage was properly performed and the marriage is now valid in that states. Reciprocity laws will recognize your marriage in the other states giving you the same rights you would have (for the most part) in Nebraska.
You have to have your ceremony within the year to validate the license, then it it good forever- no renewing. Congratulations!!
all it means you have one year to get married from when you get your license .. other wis you have to reapply for the license

you have to get is signed by a judge or a priest
You just have to get legally married in that one year. The marriage will be till death do you part, if your pick the right partner.

  • How does this marriage question I asked work?

If you are a Canadian citizen and you decide to marry a woman from another country while you went there for a visit, after the marriage and as a married couple..what if you would like to come back to Canada and bring your wife to Canada and live there...what do you have to do? How does it work? Can you bring your wife with you?How does this marriage question I asked work?
You should talk to the immigration office in Canada. They might even have a website where you can start looking into that. I wouldn't trust people here for legal advice if I were you.How does this marriage question I asked work?
Cross Border Shopping nowadays is a nightmare. A friend of mine married her husband when they were overseas, almost two years ago and he is stil not allowed in the country. A similar situation with my brother. Canada Immigration is a nightmare and leaves so many people stuck with no hope. They use a 'rating' scale and if your spouse doesn't rate, too bad, so sad. Try a google search for their website - Canada Immigration and read the requirements, and if possible, contact an immigration lawyer. You'll end up shopping at home.
I agree that the best way is consult your embassy. You may call them after making some research on what the requirements are. Try checking also the laws on your wife's country (in case you plan to go back).
